Allergen Accreditation at University of Huddersfield

The University of Huddersfield celebrates achieving Allergen Accreditation.

The Catering team at The University of Huddersfield lead by Catering Operations Manager Michaela Booth recently celebrated when, following the physical audit of the premises they were presented with their Allergen Accreditation certificate. The catering and hospitality service team were invited to the annual event that the VC attends. This provides the opportunity for the University to celebrate all the success within the Estates and Facilities department. The VC presented the certificate to Adrian and Julie and congratulated the team on their success. Jacqui McPeake was invited to represent Allergen Accreditation.

Hospitality Supervisor Julie Rogers and Sous Chef Adrian Armour both worked hard to ensure that their recipes, allergen matrix and signage were all accurate. They improved their Allergen files, ensured that the signage was clear and presented a positive message for their customers. The recipes have all been scrutinised and all the allergens have been identified. Julie and Adrian have worked hard to ensure the whole team are aware of their responsibilities.

Several members of the catering team have attended Allergen Awareness workshops and the remaining staff are booked onto the course in September.

The University of Huddersfield has almost 18,000 students and nearly 2,000 Staff across the campus. The kitchen provides a variety of hot meals for the counters across different destination points at 12 outlets. Offering a variety of traditional menus with timeless classics such as Moussaka and Meat & Potato Pie to more international dishes such as Thai Sesame Seed and Chilli vegetables. Street food pop ups are also available to offer new flavours for their customers. The catering department also known as HuddersFood provide a popular hospitality and conference service.

The audit of the premises took place a week prior to the final year students graduation ceremonies. The events the following week were expected over 15000 customers. A local bakery is used to provide popular cakes, including a vegan option and a glass of prosecco as part of their celebration.

The open days are often the busiest days with over 2,000 visitors to the University. Adrian commented that they provide a great food offer across all areas as the customers will potentially be the future students of the University. We have to ensure the student have the full student experience to encourage the students to study here at the University of Huddersfield.

Congratulations Adrian, Julie and the team!

The team all work closely together and once a year they work through the night to support the Midnight Walk for Charity. As many local people, students and staff walk many miles through the night for a local hospice, the catering team work together to prepare bacon, sausage and vegan butties for the tired and hungry walkers on their return

The Catering & Events team are very positive and work together to try to provide an excellent customer service for their customers whether they have food allergies or not. It is very reassuring to see that all customers with a food allergies or intolerance will be well catered for if they attend The University of Huddersfield outlets across campus.
